The economic and political circumstances facing the 300,000 plus refugee population in Lebanon has steadily deteriorated over the years, leaving many families without the means to access Lebanese health care facilities on their own. As part of the PCRF’s humanitarian mission to serve the medical needs of sick and injured Palestinian children throughout the Middle East, the PCRF continues to sponsor the surgical care and treatment for Palestinian refugee children in local Lebanese hospitals, whenever financially and medically possible. Throughout the years, the PCRF has sent dozens of volunteer surgical teams to the refugee camps of Lebanon to provide free, expert screenings and specialized surgery, as well as training for the local medical personnel.
In addition to the providing access to medical services, the PCRF also provides various forms of humanitarian aid and services throughout the camps of Lebanon. We continue to distribute specialized wheelchairs to disabled people, provide food and milk to several daycare centers, distribute powdered milk and diapers to needy families, and locate sponsors for disabled youths, so that they can obtain the medicine and supplies that their families cannot afford. The PCRF also continues to support the Women’s Empowerment Project throughout Lebanon, which provides widowed and single women with the means to support their families, by awarding them with one-time, start-up business grants. The PCRF remains dedicated to providing medical and humanitarian assistance to at-risk children in Lebanon’s impoverished refugee camps.
