Powdered Milk, Diaper, and Other Distributions

PCRF Food Distributions continue in Northern Gaza
In late April, The PCRF continued its food distributions in Gaza by giving out over 70 cases of food to poor families in the Jabalia refugee camp and Zaitoon area. This is the second food distribution to Gaza in the last month, the first one went to Southern Gaza in late April.


Food distribution in Southern Gaza for disabled children
In late March, early April, the PCRF continued to respond to the crisis in Gaza facing poor and disabled children by providing basic necessary food products for at-risk persons. Dozens of families in the Rafah and Khan Younis areas of Gaza received food packages from the PCRF. Since early 2008, the PCRF has continued to provide food and relief for the besieged population of Gaza, not only by providing food and medicine, but also other forms of humanitarian aid, such as surgery for children through foreign visiting missions, providing first-aid training for children and rehabilitation, as well as other forms of aid. In April, the PCRF is sending several injured kids to the USA for free medical care that is not available to them locally. Four children from Gaza were sent in January for surgery in Dubai, the UAE.

Food distribution reaches poor families in Gaza
In an attempt to address the the dire needs of poor families in the Gaza Strip, the PCRF held a distribution of food in both the Central and Southern areas of Gaza. In the Central Gaza area, 40 boxes of food were given out to 40 families, while 41 boxes were given to 41 families in Southern Gaza. The boxes that were given out contained various cans and boxes of essential food items. Many poor families in Gaza have seen increasingly more difficult times with the latest siege and closure, so the PCRF has been trying to act as quickly as we can to help ease this burdon.

Gaza children have healthy party
In the middle of February, The PCRF held a party for children in the Shujaeia area of Gaza city to celebrate both health and hygiene. Nearly 70 children around the age of 5 attended the party/distribution. The children were given party favors, snacks, and cake, but the most important prize they received was the hygiene kit that was given to each child. The point of the PCRF's distribution was to teach young children in Gaza about general hygiene, while also making it fun.

On February 5, the PCRF it's third large milk distribution in the Gaza Strip since the siege began. Working in the Dr. Haider Abdel Shafi clinic of the Union of Palestinian Medical Relief Committees clinic in Jebalya refugee camp, dozens of poor families with disabled children received weeks worth of milk for their children. This comes at a time when Gaza is under siege and nutritional food for special needs children is scarce and expensive. This is the third distribution in Gaza in the past two weeks, the other being in the souther and central part of the Strip. The milk was provided by the Latter Day Saints Charities out of Utah. They also included school supplies, first aid kits and toys for Gaza's children as well.

Due to the worsening health situation and the growing number of injuries in the Gaza Strip, the PCRF decided that it was necessary to provide classes in First Aid to help people be better prepared for these difficult circumstances. The course, which was held in Central Gaza, was sponsored by the PCRF and played host to dozens of children and residents who were interested in learning some tips in First Aid. All of the instructors for the classes were trained volunteers from the area and all of the First Aid kits that were used were donated by the PCRF. The PCRF hopes to host several more class throughout the Gaza Strip.

On January 21, PCRF board member Mr. Tayseer Barakat traveled to northern Lebanon to provide clothing, blankets and shoes for hundreds of displaced children from the Nahad el Barad refugee camp. Responding to an urgent request from the Palestinians in Badawi camp, who are housing still thousands of refugees who fled the fighting in their camp last summer, the PCRF and Mr. Barakat, through the generous support of the community in Kuwait, provided children items needed to endure the cold winter in Lebanon. Thousand of Palestinian children had their homes destroyed last summer and still remain homeless in Lebanon, suffering extreme hardship in daily life. The PCRF is responding not only to the crisis facing children in Gaza, but also those Palestinian children living in extreme conditions in Lebanon as well.

Gaza kids receive urgent aid from PCRF
On January 20, 2008, the PCRF began to distribute free milk packets for 600 poor children in the impoverished and besieged Rafah, Khan Younis, Bani Suhaila and Abasan areas of southern Gaza. The packages contains 1500g of nutritional milk for the children, who are suffering extreme hardship as a result of the Israeli closure of food and fuel into Gaza. Southern Gaza is the poorest areas of Palestine and children there make up more than 50% of the population. The PCRF will continue to provide milk, food, clothing and other humanitarian aid during the siege to poor children in Gaza in the coming days. Both the Latter Day Saints Charities from the USA and the UAE Red Crescent Society in Abu Dhabi are partnering with the PCRF, who has an experience and hard-working staff on the ground in Gaza, to respond to the humanitarian crisis facing children in the coming days.

PCRF's latest milk distribution goes to Nablus
On August 27th, 2007, The PCRF distributed more powdered milk to poor, malnourished children in the West Bank. This time the distribution took place in the villages of Nasarya Aqrabanyah, Ain Shibli, Nasaryah, and Jeftlic, where the people are extremely poor and many of them live without electricity. 100 cases of powder milk were distributed to these villages during the distribution. 20 Children Receive Diapers Through Distribution
At the end of July, 2007, The PCRF held its most recent distribution that provided poor children with diapers that their families could not afford. The distribution, which was held in the Southern Gaza towns of Rafah and Khan Younis, served nearly two dozen children. Children were between the ages of 1 and 11 years-old, many of these children suffer from a difficult handicap.

PCRF supports nutrition program for kids in Shatila Camp
The PCRF is helping to support nutritional aid for Palestinian refugee kids in cooperation with Beit Atfal Asmoud Daycare in the Shatila RC in Beirut. 72 children between the age of 2-5 years old enjoy, in addition to milk, supplies for school and summer activity programs.


Milk Distribution in Northern Gaza
On June 5, 2007, the PCRF held a free distribution of powder milk for at-risk and malnourished children from Beit Hanoun, Beit Lahya, Jebalya and Gaza City camps and slums. The PCRF has been providing free milk for poor families in the besieged Gaza Strip since the beginning of the uprising in 2000. This is a result of the increased signs for malnutrition among many of Gaza's children, brought on by the closure of the Strip to economic activity.

In the second week of May 2007, the PCRF distributed powder milk to needy children in the Southen Gaza towns of Rafah and Khan Younis. This was the PCRF's third major distribution to the Gaza Strip so far in 2007 with the last distribution going to Central Gaza. During the southern distribution, over 150 bags of milk were given out to needy children throughout the two towns. This was part of the PCRF's ongoing effort to try tackle the malnourishment problem with children in the West Bank and Gaza strip.


The PCRF helps malnourished children in Central Gaza
In the beginning of May 2007, the PCRF held a powder milk distribution for children who suffer from malnutrition in Central Gaza. Poverty, unemployment, and closures continue to effect the health and well-being of young children in both the West Bank and Gaza. In an effort to help these families in need, the PCRF distributed milk to over 150 children in the Central Gaza camps of Maghazi, Nuseirat, Bureij, and Deir Balah. The distribution was sponsored by the PCRF with help from several local organizations.

PCRF Holds Milk Distribution in Gaza Strip
On January 11-12, 2007, the PCRF held a powder milk distribution in the northern Gaza Strip, where many poor children are suffering from malnutrition. We provided free milk for poor children at risk, as well as disabled kids from impoverished families. The PCRF continued to distribute free milk in Gaza in 2007 to help offset the high number of neglected and malnourished children there.


The PCRF holds milk distribution in Jenin
In early December 2006, the PCRF held a powder milk distribution in the Northern West Bank town of Jenin. The milk distribution was part of the PCRF's Emergency Relief efforts that works to reduce the number of malnourished children in the West Bank and Gaza. The Jenin distribution was able to reach dozens of needy children, whose family were financially unable to provide them with an adequate amount of milk on their own.

PCRF distributes milk and diapers in Central Gaza
In October, 2006, the PCRF distributed milk and diapers to dozens of needy children living in Central Gaza. The children were chosen according to their economic situation and needs, as most of them were very poor, while some of them were disabled. The distribution was part of the PCRF Emergency Relief Projects that works to help families that have immediate humanitarian needs.

PCRF helping refugees in Lebanon, Gaza

Since the Israeli attacks on civilian sites in Gaza and Lebanon, the Palestine Children's Relief Fund has been responding to the humanitarian crisis there by distributing food and medicine, as well as clothing and other supplies to refugees displaced from South Lebanon and also in the central refugee camp district of Gaza, where Israeli attacks on Maghazi refugee camp left dozens of civilians dead and injured. Powdered Milk Distribution Targets Children with Health Problems
In early August 2005, The PCRF held a powdered milk distribution for malnourished children in the West Bank town of Jenin. The distribution, which was in cooperation with the local Community Raced Rehabiliation Program, provided over 120 cases of milk to children with various health problems including cerebral palsy. In an effort to reach more children, the milk was distributed in several different locations such as the Patient Friend Society, Alyamon Charitable Organization, Yabad Charitable Organization, and Selat Alhartheah Rehabilitation of the Disabled Center. This was the second Emergency Relief Project of 2005, as the PCRF also donated diapers to children in February.

Babies in Northern Gaza Get Much Needed Supply of Powder Milk
On July 31st, 2005The PCRF provided a much-needed distribution of powder milk to malnourished children from the Northern Gaza Jabalia RC. Nearly 50 children and their families attended the distribution, which provided free bags of powdered milk to families with children from ages 3 and under. The distribution is part of The PCRF's Emergency Relief Projects, which was established to help the immediate needs of poor and desperate familiers in Palestine. The PCRF Distributes Powder Milk to Malnourished Children in Southern Gaza
On July 27th, 2005, The PCRF distributed powder milk to over 80 poor and handicapped children in the Southern Gaza towns of Rafah and Khan Younis. The Milk distribution was the second distribution to the area in 2005, as the PCRF provided the milk to 70 children in Januaray. The current distribution provided assistance to needy families with children from ages of newborns to 10 year-old. The PCRF's powder milk distributions are in response to the Care study that found a growing rate of malnutrition in children in the West Bank and Gaza.


PCRF Distributes Diapers to Needy Famlies in Central Gaza
In the beginning of May 2005, the PCRF held a diaper distribution in the Central Gaza village of Shams Al Hurea. The distribution provided diapers to dozens of poor families who have children with various medical disorders such as incontinence, epilepsy, and paraplegia. The PCRF has been doing a great job of meeting the needs of these families in need who cannot afford to pay for diapers on their own.


PCRF Holds Distribution in West Bank

On February 9th, 2005, the PCRF held a diaper distribution in the northern West Bank town of Jenin. The PCRF has been working hard to provide more and more relief services to those families in desperate need. This marked the first time that the PCRF held a distribution in the West Bank. The past distributions were all held in the Gaza Strip, as the need in that region is great. The February distribution was able to provide dozens offamilies with much needed diapers.

PCRF Distributes Powder Milk to Malnourished Children in Khan Younis
On January 4th and 5th, the PCRF held a powder milk distribution for malnourished children in the city of Khan Younis in the southern district of Gaza. The distribution was sponsored by Merlin Nathan, a occupational therapist that the PCRF has brought on several medical missions to Palestine in order to improve the quality of rehabilation centers there. Nearly 70 needy children and their families were given powder milk through the two-day distribution, which was in response to the Care study that found a growing rate of malnutrition in children in the West Bank and Gaza.



The PCRF Distributes More Diapers to Children in Gaza
In the beginning of November, The PCRF distributed diapers to needy children in the Gaza town of Deir El Balah. The PCRF is consistantly working and looking for ways to relieve the burden of poor children whose families cannot afford them with basic necessities. The PCRF last held a diaper distribution in August when nearly 70 children received diapers. The diaper distrubutions are a part of the PCRF's Emergency Relief Project's.

The PCRF Relieves Burdon of Needy School Children in Gaza
At the beginning of September, the PCRF responded to yet another humanitarian crisis by donating school bags to needy children whose home had been destroyed by the Israeli army in the Al Moghraka area. The donation was just a small contribution in order to show support for these children and their education. The PCRF has been working hard to aid in the humanitarian crisis that faces the Palestinian children, especially those in Gaza in recent months. The PCRF Distributes Diapers to Poor Children in Rafah
On August 2, 2004, the PCRF held a diaper distribution in the Southern refugee camp of Rafah. The PCRF distribution, which provided diapers to nearly 70 needy children with various health problems, was held shortly after an Israeli attack on Rafah. The aim of the distribution was to relieve some of the suffering under the bad social, economical, and health situation.

The PCRF Provides Relief to Many in Gaza
In late July, the PCRF hosted a large diaper distribution as a part of its Emergency Relief Projects, which was designed to help provide immediate assistance to sick and injured children in desperate times. Nearly 70 bags of diapers were distributed to poor babies and elderly in the towns of Der El Balah, Al Magazi, Al Busierat, and Al Bureij. The distribution was successful in providing much needed relief to dozens of families in Central Gaza.

PCRF Distributes Powdered Milk to Babies in Nablus
On July 20th, the PCRF began the distribution of powdered milk for malnourished children in the West Bank town of Nablus. The distribution was part of the PCRF's Emergency Relief Projects, which was established to assist poor children with immediate humanitarian needs. The two-day distribution was a j
oint effort between the PCRF and the El Bireh Youth. The two organization combined their resources and efforts to provide much needed milk to over 400 children from Nablus and the surrounding villages.



PCRF Distributed Diapers to Children In Gaza
In the beginning of June, The PCRF distributed diapers to several needy children in the town of Deir Balah in the Gaza Strip. The diapers were donated by the PCRF and were given to childen with medical disabilities such as down syndrome, muscular dystrophy, and congenital heart disease. The distribution was part of the PCRF Emergency Relief Projects, which was designed to help provide immediate assistance to sick and injured children in desperate times.

PCRF Distributes Powered Milk for Malnuroused Babies in Hebron
In April, the PCRF arranged another powdered milk distribution for babies with early signs of malnutrition. This was the sixth distribution that the PCRF has held since January 2003. The milk distributions are a part of the PCRF's Emergency Relief Projects and was established in response to a CARE study that found a high malnutrition rate in children in the West Bank and Gaza. The latest distribution was held in Hebron and was able to privide dozens of malnourished children in the surrounding villages with free cans of powered milk.


The PCRF Does Two Powder Milk Distributions in Tulkarem, Jenin

In January and March, the PCRF help powder milk distributions in the West Bank towns of Jenin and Tulkarem for children who are poor and showing early signs of malnutrition. Starting on January 12, the PCRF held a two-day distribution at the Ministry of Social Affairs in Jenin. 300 Children from 35 surrounding towns, villages and refugees camps were provided free powder milk, the first day for children up to six months old, and the second day for those up to 2 years old. The sources for refering children for free milk, which was bought by the PCRF from a local company, were the Social Affairs Office, Community Based Rehabilitation Program (C.B.R), the Local Committee for Rehabilitation for Disability / Jenin camp, the Tha'arah Women Center / Jenin Governorate and the Fahmh Women Center / Fahmeh Village.

On March 10, the PCRF held a two-day distribution of powder milk at the Ministry of Social Affairs in the Tulkarem District. 240 children who were suffering from early signs of malnutrition, were provided free powder milk. This was an ongoing program of the PCRF to address the increased level of malnutrition that is seen mostly in the Gaza Strip, where several past distributions were held, as well as in the Northern West Bank.



PCRF Distributes Powder Milk for Babies in the Jenin Area
In November, the PCRF sent thousands of dollars worth of powder milk to the Jenin area for free distribution for babies suffering from early signs of malnourishment. Palestinian children are suffering from increasing signs of poor nutrition as a result of the political and economic hardships from the occupation. This was the first distribution of powder milk in the West Bank, as past distributions were in the Gaza Strip, where, according to a USAid study last year, the signs of malnutrition are much higher.

Distribution of Diapers for Handicapped Children in Gaza

On September 3 & 4th, the PCRF distributed over 100 bags of diapers for more than 50 children in the Central Gaza area of the Nuseirat refugee camp, Magazi refugee camp, Dier Balah camp and the Buriej refugee camp. These diapers were for both very poor families and very poor handicapped children whose families could not afford to obtain these items on their own.


Second Milk Distribution Reaches Many More Children in Gaza
At the end of March 2003, the PCRF continued its Emergency Relief efforts by providing hundreds of malnourished babies in Gaza with free containers of milk. This marked the second time this year that the PCRF has distributed milk throughout Gaza.

Powder Milk Distribution in Gaza for Malnourished Babies

In January 2003, the PCRF purchased a shipment of powder milk for free distribution to over 200 families in Gaza who have children who are suffering from signs of malnurishment as a result of the economic situation and siege imposed there. The distribution was done in all three districts of Gaza (Northern, Central and Southern) for free and was based on the social background of the families. The PCRF has pledges from more donors to do further shipments in 2003.
