The PCRF Sponsors Dozens More Children in 2nd Quarter, 2003.
In the second quarter of 2003, The PCRF continued to sponsor sick children with heart disease through the "Save A Child's Heart" program at Wolfson Hospital in Holon. Below are the profiles for some of the children treated. >>>See list of children treated.

Akram Astal
Akram is a six month old Palestinian boy from Khan Yunis in the Gaza Strip.
He suffers from congenital heart defects known as Atrio-Ventricular Canal and Malopposed Great Vessels.
Akram was admitted to the Save a Child’s Heart center on February 25th, 2003.
On February 26th, Akram underwent a cardiac catheterization and the following day, surgery which included a central shunt.

Sufian Sofian Abu Tuima
Sufian is a four month old Palestinian baby from Khan Yunis in the Gaza Strip.
He was referred to us by the Shevat Achim association, suffering from tricuspid atresia and a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD).
He was admitted to the Save a Child’s Heart center on April 1st, 2003.
The next day, Sufian underwent surgery which included a procedure known as a HemiFontan.
Sufian recovered well, and returned home on April 13th.
Sufian has been cosponsored by the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.

Mohammed Akram Saadeh
Mohammed is a four month old Palestinian baby from the village of Badu in the West Bank.
Mohammed was admitted to the Save a Child’s Heart center on April 6th, 2003 suffering from a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) and coarctation of the aorta.
Mohammed underwent surgery on April 8th where his coarctation was repaired.
He has since undergone a further three surgeries including placement of a left bronchial stent, a thoracic duct ligation and, on May 18th, his VSD was repaired.
Due to his various surgeries, Mohammed remained in the Intensive Care Unit for two months, but he has now recovered.
He was referred to us through the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund who cosponsored his surgery.

Ahmad Samer Sarsor
Ahmad is a one year old Palestinian boy from Arraba, a village close to Jenin in the West Bank.
Ahmad has suffered attacks of cyanosis since his birth and has previously been admitted to the Francis Hospital in Nazareth and the Jenin Hospital. He was diagnosed as suffering from Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) and Double Outlet Right Ventricle (DORV)
Ahmad was referred to Save a Child’s Heart by the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund and was admitted to the SACH center on June 24th.
On June 30th, Ahmad underwent surgery which included repair of his TOF and DORV.
He recovered well and Ahmed returned home of July 21st.

Mustafa Radhi
Mustafa is a seven month old Palestinian baby from Ramallah in the West Bank.
He was admitted to the Save a Child’s Heart center on April 8th, 2003 suffering from severe pulmonic stenosis.
On April 10th, Mustafa was taken to the cardiac catheterization laboratory where he underwent a balloon valvoplasty.
He recovered well, and Mustafa returned home on April 13th.
Mustafa has been cosponsored by the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund

Dania Mitni
Dania is a seven month old Palestinian baby from Jenin in the West Bank.
She was admitted to the Save a Child’s Heart center on April 14th, 2003 suffering from a Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA).
Dania underwent surgery on April 29th which included ligation of her PDA.
She recovered well, and Dania returned home on May 5th.
She has been cosponsored by the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.

Sheren Saed Abu Assy
Sheren is a one year old Palestinian baby from Gaza City.
She was admitted to the Save a Child’s Heart center on April 29, 2003 suffering from Tetrology of the Fallot (TOF).
On May 19th, Sheren underwent surgery to repair her TOF. She had to be reopened the next day for a catheter to be inserted.
She returned home on the 25th of July.
Sheren has been cosponsored by the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.

Rama Hasan Al-Barq
Rama is a Palestinian baby from Nablus in the West Bank, born on February 1st, 2003.
Rama’s mother lost a previous child at the age of one month due to a heart lesion which was not diagnosed in time.
Rama’s cardiac problem was diagnosed at Makassed Hospital in East Jerusalem, where it was found she was suffering from dextracardia and pulmonary hypertension.

Mohammed Yosri Qunaibi
Mohammed is a seven month old Palestinian baby from Hebron in the West Bank.
He was referred to us through the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund
Mohammed was admitted to the Save a Child’s Heart center on May 20th, 2003 suffering from a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD).
Mohammed underwent a cardiac catheterization on June 11th and a day later was taken to the operating room where his VSD was closed.
He returned home on the 9th of July.
Mohammed has been cosponsored by the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.

Miriam Mohammed Ali Yousef
Miriam is a Palestinian baby from Gaza who was born on February 23rd, 2003.
She was admitted to the Save a Child’s Heart center on May 8th, suffering from a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD).
On May 11th, she underwent surgery which included repair of both her VSD and an Atrial Septal Defect.
She recovered well and returned home on May 20th.
Miriam’s surgery has been cosponsored by the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.

Somaeh Zaid Mahmoud Elatar
Somaeh is a Palestinian baby from the Gaza Strip, born on March 7th, 2003.
She was admitted to the Save a Child’s Heart center on May 4th after several days in the Eldorra Hospital in Gaza.
She was suffering from tricuspid atresia with mild pulmonary stenosis and a small Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD).
She was admitted in such a critical condition, that she was taken straight to the operating room where she underwent a B-T shunt.
She recovered quickly and returned home on June 2nd.
Someah has been cosponsored by the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.

Ali Rushdi Dalul
Ali is a 14 month old Palestinian boy from the Gaza Strip.
He was admitted to the Save a Child’s Heart center on April 29, 2003 suffering from complete A-V Canal with pulmonary hypertension, as well as Down’s Syndrome.
On May 20th, Ali underwent mitral valve and atrial valve replacement.
He returned home on the 17th of June 2003.

Maha Salem Sobhi Shbair
Maha is a nine month old Palestinian girl from Khan Yunis in the Gaza Strip.
She was admitted to the Save a Child’s Heart center on April 29, 2003 suffering from Double Outlet Right Ventricle (DORV) and a large Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD).
On May 1st, she underwent surgery which included pulmonary artery banding and atrial sepetecomy.
She recovered from her surgery and returned home on May 20th . However, she will need further surgery in the near future.
Maha has been cosponsored by the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.
