Cardiostart Mission
September 1-14, 2001
In early September, the PCRF sent a 16-member team of pediatric
cardiac surgeons and nurses from the United States, Canada,
New Zealand and the UK to do life-saving open-heart surgery
on sick babies with congenital heart disease at Ramallah Hospital
and Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. The team was organized by Cardiostart
and brought thousands of dollars worth of donated medical supplies.
Led by Dr. Alan Kerr of Green
Lane Hospital in New Zealand and Dr.
Aubyn Marath, the head of Cardiostart, the team worked during
extremely difficult political circumstances on the ground in
Palestine. Despite this, we were able to save the lives of many
children and worked in close cooperation with the PNA
Ministry of Health.
