Italian Pediatric Tracheal and Pulmonary Team Starts Surgery

This week, a team from Tuscany in Italy arrived at the Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah to start providing children from the West Bank and Gaza Strip complex pediatric tracheal and pulmonary surgery that is otherwise not available to them locally. The team are helping to support and train local surgeon Dr. Nisreen Rumman, and in the past volunteered through the PCRF at Makassed Hospital in East Jerusalem. On the team are Pediatric cardiac surgeon Dr. Vincenzo Luisi, who also leads our missions to Gaza, anesthesia, resuscitation and respiratory endoscopy specialist Dr. Lorenzo Mirabile and Dr. Roberto Baggi and Anesthesiologist Dr. Fabio Panetta. The PCRF's goal is to build a program in Palestine that ensures that these children are able to get care locally and not have to travel abroad for treatment.
