Six-Year-Old Finishes Surgery In San Diego For Lost Eye
Nidal Mohsen lost his left eye to an Israeli bullet in June, 1993 as he returned home from school during clashes in the Shati Refugee Camp in Gaza.

The Palestine Children's Relief Fund arranged for Nidal to be treated by Dr. Arthur Perry at Scripps Memorial Hospital in San Diego. At the end of November, Dr. Perry removed Nidal's damaged eye and provided him with a new prosthesis that the doctor developed in 1989, which will be attached to Nidal's eye muscles and moves with the other eye.

The boy was hosted by Victor and Afaf Nasser, who have several children the same age as Nidal. During his stay in southern California, he attended school and learned to speak some English.

Scripps Hospital, Dr. Perry and Kolberg all provided Nidal care as a charity case, which was arranged through the PCRF.

The PCRF was assisted in covering the plane fare and other costs involved in Nidal's care with the help of Marwan and Hiam Khaireddin, who organized bake sales and a dinner for the Arab community in San Diego.
