A British three-member palliative care team led by Dr. Mhoira Leng are in Gaza this week providing training and support for local medical staff and medical students. Joining Dr. Leng are Dr. Maya Bates and Dr. Anthony Jefferis, who is helping to develop the availability for palliative care in Gaza. Patients in Gaza suffer from a lack of palliative care, which is a multidisciplinary approach to specialized medical and nursing care for people with life-limiting illnesses. It focuses on providing relief from the symptoms, pain, physical stress, and mental stress at any stage of illness. This team will support the care and treatment of children with cancer in our pediatric oncology department that we are building in Gaza city.
