This week, long-time PCRF volunteer surgeon from Australia, Dr. Tim Keenan, and OR Nurse Marilyn Dey led an assessment visit to the European Gaza Hospital and Shifa Hospital in the Gaza Strip. The primary objective of this assessment mission is to determine the specific needs in supporting arthroscopic surgery in Gaza. By conducting these visits, PCRF gains valuable insights into the healthcare infrastructure, identifies areas that require improvement, and understands the resources required to address those needs effectively. In the case of the visit to EGH and Shifa Hospital, the focus was on arthroscopic surgery. Dr. Tim Keenan, an experienced Arthroscopic Surgeon, and OR Nurse Marilyn Dey assessed the facilities, equipment, and training available at these hospitals. They interacted with the medical staff, observed surgeries, and reviewed medical records to gain a comprehensive understanding of the current state of arthroscopic surgery in the area. Assessment missions play a crucial role in addressing healthcare disparities. They help identify gaps in medical expertise, equipment, supplies, and infrastructure, allowing PCRF to develop targeted interventions. By determining the specific needs of each medical specialty, PCRF can allocate resources effectively and provide tailored support to hospitals and healthcare professionals.
