PCRF’s first child travels to the US during Covid for surgery

12-year-old Mariam from Ramallah was born with a very complicated condition called tracheal stenosis, which cannot be treated in Palestine In 2009 a volunteer pediatric surgeon from New Jersey on a PCRF medical mission to the West Bank determined it was too complicated to be treated in Palestine. Our Patient Affairs team arranged her travel to the US for her surgery but unfortunately complications with the surgery plan required her to go to a more specialized center. This week, after nearly a one-year hiatus on our travel abroad program due to Covid, Mariam and her mom arrived in Cincinnati where she will undergo treatment and surgery at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. PCRF is the main nonprofit in the world sending kids from Palestine abroad for free care. Over 2,000 children like Mariam have been cared for abroad. Our PCRF Cincinnati chapter is helping care for her and her mother during the child‘s treatment.
