The Importance of Pediatric Neurology

The Importance of Pediatric Neurology

Pediatric neurology is a specialized branch of healthcare that focuses on treating children with conditions affecting their brains and nervous systems. Pediatric neurologists—often referred to as child neurologists—help to diagnose and provide care for pediatric neurological disorders. Some of the most common neurological conditions and disorders include:

  • Migraines
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • Epilepsy
  • Autoimmune encephalitis
  • Developmental delays
  • Neuromuscular disorders
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Other neurological disorders

Pediatric neurology is so important because identifying and addressing neurological disorders early in childhood can help to prevent them from worsening as a child grows and develops. Sometimes, a child’s disorder can be completely cured, while other times it must be maintained and monitored for the rest of their life. Identifying these conditions early on allows a pediatric neurologist to determine the best care plan moving forward.

Caring for these conditions also helps a child to stay as healthy as possible since some disorders can lead to additional health issues. But how do you know when to seek out the help of a pediatric neurologist? Here are some of the reasons you may need to see a pediatric neurologist:

  • If a child has poor balance
  • If a child has severe, recurring, or persistent headaches
  • If a child experiences memory loss
  • If a child experiences pain often
  • If a child has issues walking
  • If a child has seizures
  • If a child exhibits developmental delays
  • If a child has an unintentional tic or jerk
  • If a child experiences an unexplained loss of consciousness
  • If a child experiences numbness, tingling, or a lack of sensation in part of their body
  • If a child has issues with moving around
  • If a child experiences tremors
  • If a child has issues with coordination or motor function

The Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) continues to provide humanitarian aid to children and their families through our hospitals, pediatric medical programs, health initiatives, hospital infrastructure projects, orphan and refugee sponsorships, and medical missions. These efforts help to ensure that children in need get the vital assistance they require.

PCRF has a committee of volunteer pediatricians on our Medical Advisory Board who are dedicated to building up services through training, programs, and guiding PCRF to improve the quality of pediatric care in Palestine.

PCRF is not a political or religious organization. Our mission is to provide medical and humanitarian relief collectively and individually to Arab children throughout the Middle East, regardless of their nationality, politics, or religion. We rely on charitable giving to provide medical treatment, surgeries, safety, shelter, and support to children and their families in Palestine and the Levant. Find out how you can get involved and help make a difference in children’s lives today!
