Italian Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Team Saves Lives in Palestine

This week, a pediatric cardiac surgery team led by Dr. Giancarlo Crupi from Bergamo, Italy, arrived at the Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah to provide live-saving open-heart surgery on children born with congenital heart disease from the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Dr. Crupi, who was one of the first pediatric cardiac surgeons to volunteer with the PCRF in Palestine 20 years ago, was joined by surgeons Dr. Francesco Santoro and Dr. Elena Ribera, as well as cardiologist Dr. Gigi Festa, anesthesiologists (from Palestine) Dr. Hasan Ismael and Dr. Giovanni di Dedda, perfusionist Federica Raffin, and nurses Violeta Urukalo, Stefania Poggi, Guja Cattaneo, and Rosangela Personeni and ICU Nurses Luisa Bonnuccelli  and Gloria Todeschini.
