This week, a four-member team of volunteers from North America completed the first successful Pediatrics and Neonatal Transport Medicine Workshop ever held in Palestine. This is the first step to building a Specialized Palestinian Pediatrics and Neonatal Transport Team to save the lives of sick babies and address the challenges of moving patients in an occupied West Bank with military checkpoints and settlements, which often stop ambulances from transporting patients for hours! The first workshop was held on August 13th, 2023, in Rafidia Hospital in Nablus with medical staff from Jenin Hospital and Ittihad Hospital in Nablus. PCRF brought together medical professionals, transport experts, and researchers to delve into the critical aspects of medical care during transportation. With insightful discussions and hands-on sessions, 30 participants, nurses, and doctors explored innovative techniques, protocols, and technologies to ensure safe and effective medical support in various transport scenarios for sick babies. PCRF would like to thank each attendee, leaders, co-leaders, and our esteemed speakers for their valuable contributions; These include members of our PICU Medical Advisory Board committee, Dr. Cathy Woodward, Dr. Maher Shahroor, Dr. Murad Elbabaa, and Michele Jakubcryk, and Starleah Pinones, RT, Pediatric/Neo Transport Specialist. The team left for Gaza to do the same training over the course of two days in hospitals. This week's workshop was the first step in building up life-saving transport services for Palestinian babies in the occupied territories.
