Healing Hearts in Gaza: Italian Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Team Brings Hope and Care

This week, the Italian pediatric cardiac surgery team returned to the European Gaza Hospital in the southern Gaza Strip. Led by the dedicated pediatric cardiac surgeon Dr. Bruno Murzi and supported by an exceptional team of 11 volunteers; surgeon Vera Cetera, cardiologist Nadia Assanta, anesthesiologists Paolo Del Sarto, Fabio Panetta, & Greta Giuliano, perfusionist Orfeo Romano and nurses Giada Boggi, Sara Manfredi, Silvia Marcuzz, and Chiara Iovalè. The team began the critical task of conducting medical examinations for 28 brave children who are facing complex heart problems and require surgery. So far, the team has performed life-altering open-heart surgeries for two children, three-month-old Yamin and toddler Maria, both from Khan Younis. Advanced surgical procedures are not readily accessible in the Gaza Strip. Through missions like these, we strive to bridge the healthcare gap and bring vital medical services to those in need. We remain committed to healing the hearts of our children and providing them with the care they deserve. Dr. Murzi is the Coordinator and Director of the Pediatric Cardiac Surgical Unit at the Ospedale G.Pasquinucci in Massa, Italy, and is part of our ENT: Interventional Airway Procedures subcommittee on our Medical Advisory board.
