Due to a traffic accident six months ago, four-year-old Rahaf from South Gaza underwent a complicated above-the-knee amputation. Rahaf was immediately evaluated within the PCRF amputee program, and the necessary mental health services were provided to help her and her family begin to heal her post-traumatic stress disorder. American Prosthetist and Subcommittee Chair of Prosthetics and Orthotics on our Medical Advisory Board, Ramona Okumara, evaluated Rahaf. In cooperation with PCRF, Rahaf was referred to the rehabilitation program at Hamad Hospital in Gaza City, and a cast has been made to manufacture the first prosthetic limb for Rahaf to be ready for her prosthetic fitting. With a newfound joy, she requested a blue prosthetic limb and is excited to take her first steps again.
