Supporting Mothers of Pediatric Cancer Patients through Group Therapy Sessions
Supporting Mothers of Pediatric Cancer Patients through Group Therapy Sessions

At the Dr. Musa and Suhaila Nasir Pediatric Cancer Department in Gaza, our mental health team provides group therapy sessions, which are consistently available for mothers with children facing cancer, particularly those who are newly diagnosed. These sessions play a pivotal role in extending psychological support to these mothers, helping them navigate and overcome the trauma associated with their child's diagnosis. Furthermore, our aim is to equip mothers with essential psychological education, enabling them to understand and address the challenges and symptoms their child may encounter throughout the various stages of treatment. These challenges may include heightened anxiety, hair loss, school absenteeism, and bullying, among others. Our sessions empower mothers with effective strategies to handle these difficulties. The impact of these sessions is evident in the profound relief from their negative emotions and the valuable support and tools they gain to navigate their child's illness with a positive outlook.
